Farewell, Dai-Gurren-Dan…

November 26, 2007

And so, like all good stories, Gurren Lagann came to end, for me, this weekend.

Like my post-Full Metal Alchemist emo, I feel I may never enjoy an anime as much, ever again. Fortunately, I suppose, I will inevitably be proven wrong. But for now, TTGL is the finest series of anime I have ever encountered, and I can’t bring myself to watch anything else.
Perhaps a severe analogy, but it’s like falling in love with the perfect woman, only to have her die or leave you. It screws you over. If not for life, at least for a very, very long time.

Animax ZA site

November 19, 2007

Animax has a site for ZA. Although it looks like they pretty much just copied the German site. Regardless, a nifty resource for those still struggling (in futility) to schedule their viewing chronologically.

Animax: follow up on ep. order

November 9, 2007

Seems more than a couple people have been questioning what the heck is up with Animax’s episode ordering/schedule. Below is a reply scavenged from a topic on DSTV.com’s forums. I’ve emphasized the interesting bits.

The Shinji-Kamina Manliness Scale

November 7, 2007

Originally encounted trawling the delicious archives of Derailed By Darry, the Shinki-Kamina Manliness scale is an arbitrary measurement of a character’s… well.. ‘manliness‘ along a scale of 1 through 10, 1 being the lowest of the low – aka Shinji from Evangelion, and 10 being the epitome of testorone and burning spirit rawr. I couldn’t find and actual scale though, so I’ve come up with one of my own.

Animax jumps the shark early?

November 7, 2007

As I’m certain any number of Azanian anime nerds have probably waxed lyrical and hyped frothily about already, Animax launched this past weekend, 3rd of November. It promised us everything we’d been hoping for. A good selection of quality titles on a 24 hour, 7 day a week channel devoted to nothing but moe doe-eyed meidu, giant robots and, well, vampires for some reason. Always with the vampires. Were vampires ever a part of Japanese history? What gives? Random derailing aside, I certainly hoped that the channel would deliver, and in terms of lineup and all that, it seems to. But the channel may be heading out to shark infested waters.. and they may have already jumped a couple.

Because : what the hell is with the borked episode airing order? Read the rest of this entry ?

Gurren Lagann > u

November 7, 2007

O shit. An anime post. Fuck.

Ya know, I’m not really that much of an otaku. I can’t speak or comprehend Japanese for one, besides a few choice words. And while I certainly enjoy watching what Japan spews out from it’s monstrous animation industry, I don’t watch it all. By most standards, I probably watch hardly any, compared to a bona fide otaku.

That said, I probably gleefully consume enough to know the crap from the less-crap, and every now and then a series muscles it’s way into my field of view that demands my undivided attention and even obsession. Gurren Lagann is one such series.
