Skurmish

July 23, 2008

Right. It’s been a while since I’ve blogged. The same reasons prevail.  For a while I had a blog running at my WoW guild site here, but firewall issues have since made it too much of a pain in the neck to update. So I’ve decided to host that WoW blog here. I’m not sure how much I’ll keep contributing to Square Root. When the fancy takes me, I suppose.

In the meanwhile though, I/we/nobodyy can expect some WoW rants in the near future over at New Skurmish.

back from Zam, closed for biz

December 19, 2007

A very quick post before I flee the office as one would flee Cerberus from the gaping maw of Hades. I went to Zambia from the week of the 11th till the 17th. Saw the Vic falls, jumped off a cliff (tied to a rope though, woo), and did some other shit (unfortunately catching a Tigerfish was not one of them). The Gorge Swing was a rush. A terrifying, ‘omg im gonna die’ rush. Definately the high point of the trip. Counterbalanced by many, many low points, though. Zambia itself is a hole in the ground. At least I gained some persepctive. I could live in better places than where I reside now, but I certainly could live in worse. Like Zambia.
Ugh. It’s Hot. Really hot. And Wet. With bugs everywhere. And zero infrastructure. Forget internet. And nothing to really do. And everything is hellishly expensive. Gas, for eg? R15 a liter. Basically, the entire country is dirt poor. Imagine every town or city in your country is Soweto or Alexandria. That’s Zambia.

Quickly came into the office to take care of some issue, only to find out there’s no issue to take care of because the guy whose supposed to email me the import files, didn’t. /shrug. Not my problem then. So I’m off to enjoy the rest of the hols. Probably jusit gonna play a lot of WoW, maybe grab myself and Ecksbawks and Mass Effect.

So happy Christmas, Hanukah, whatever. Till ’08, i bid thee adieu.

Farewell, Dai-Gurren-Dan…

November 26, 2007

And so, like all good stories, Gurren Lagann came to end, for me, this weekend.

Like my post-Full Metal Alchemist emo, I feel I may never enjoy an anime as much, ever again. Fortunately, I suppose, I will inevitably be proven wrong. But for now, TTGL is the finest series of anime I have ever encountered, and I can’t bring myself to watch anything else.
Perhaps a severe analogy, but it’s like falling in love with the perfect woman, only to have her die or leave you. It screws you over. If not for life, at least for a very, very long time.

Animax ZA site

November 19, 2007

Animax has a site for ZA. Although it looks like they pretty much just copied the German site. Regardless, a nifty resource for those still struggling (in futility) to schedule their viewing chronologically.

Hellgate is failure

November 19, 2007

So Hellgate is here, after years of hype and hope from all of us aging, decrepit Diablo fans praying for Roper’s new studio to truly recapture that same recipe of addictive hack ‘n slash. HG:L seemed to promise everything, on paper: the same gameplay, a hawt 3d engine, randomized levels, and a Blizzard-quality experience considering they’re all ex-Blizzard. And I mean everyone knows that if you came from Blizzard, you can do no wrong! It’s about the people, not the company? Amirite?

Animax: follow up on ep. order

November 9, 2007

Seems more than a couple people have been questioning what the heck is up with Animax’s episode ordering/schedule. Below is a reply scavenged from a topic on DSTV.com’s forums. I’ve emphasized the interesting bits.
